PrettyvacanT Dublin's second exhibition, Me Myself & Eye took place in Temple Bar, Dublin

Me, Myself & Eye was a series of photographs by Irish artist Karen Forrester.

After solving the intricate problem of how to hang work in a bare window with no hooks, nails or rails, we were ready to exhibit.

Forrester’s experiences with bipolar disorder - an illness characterised by intense, alternating “mood episodes” – had flooded through the images.

Bipolar disorder and its looping, cycling symptoms foster feelings of disconnected-ness, delusion and “un-reality”. After being first medicated, and finding her senses altered and her personality modified, Forrester could not help but look at her environment through a new veil, and from a new perspective.

It was that restructuring, reconsideration and rearrangement of perspective that, we thought, found a voice through Forrester’s stark urban landscapes, forcing us to ask the question: what is self?

Karen Forrester is a Dublin based photographer. She graduated with an Honours Degree in Electronic Media.

Past exhibitions have included Cups and Pegs at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and the Hard Working Class Heroes photographic exhibition in Dublin. Her work has also been published in Source magazine.
